Resident Rights: Door-to-door Sales
West Chester Township provides residential property owners with a means to prohibit certain types of door-to-door solicitation through West Chester Board of Trustees Resolution 19-2017, as permitted by Ohio Revised Code 505.94.
The resolution states that solicitation shall not occur on any residence where a "no solicitation" sign, decal, or other lawful display is exhibited.
It is the responsibility of the homeowner to display a No Soliciting decal or sign in a visible location near the front door. West Chester Township cling decals can be obtained at no cost at the West Chester Township Administration Building, the West Chester Police Department, West Chester Community Development, and Midpointe Library West Chester
Transient vendors, as defined by Ohio Revised Code 505.94, are required to register at the West Chester Township Police Department where they are issued a Solicitor's Registration Card which must be visible when they approach a home. Solicitors are limited to the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., May through September; and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., October through May.
These provisions do not apply to those soliciting for non-profit activities such as school fundraisers, etc.
Resident Rights
If a No Soliciting sign is visibly posted at your residence and a transient vendor comes to your door, get as much information as possible (name of individual, company name and description). This information may be provided on a brochure or handout provided by the vendor. Then contact West Chester Police at (513) 777-2231 to report the violation.
A police officer must be able to identify the solicitor in order to issue a citation.
If you see a transient vendor in West Chester neighborhoods without the appropriate badge, notify West Chester Police with as much information as possible.
