Beckett Park - Muhlhauser Barn
8558 Beckett Road
A 2012 finalist in Cincy Magazine's Best of the North for Places to Have a Wedding
The 1881 Muhlhauser Barn was reconstructed in Beckett Park in 2008 as a community gathering and rental facility.
The Barn was once part of the Muhlhauser-Windish Brewing Company and still bears the Muhlhauser name prominently in its slate tile roof.
How the Barn Ended Up Here
The Muhlhauser Barn previously stood on Route 4 in Fairfield on the grounds of Ohio Casualty. Employees of Ohio Casualty, hoping that the Barn would be saved, contacted West Chester Township and descendents of the Muhlhauser family about saving the structure. Working through The Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty, the Muhlhauser family collected the funds needed to dismantle the barn and move it to Beckett Park. West Chester Township then funded the re-construction and restoration of the prominent timberframe structure. One of few true timberframe barns remaining in the state.
Renting the Barn
The Muhlhauser Barn is available for rent through West Chester Township. It is a seasonal facility available April through early November. The Barn has no heating and no air conditioning, but is equipped with large ceiling fans, operable windows and a gas fireplace.
The large, open space can accommodate about 220 people. An open loft area can also accommodate guests, but is accessible only by stairs. Round guest tables, rectangular banquet tables and chairs are available for use by renters.
The Barn features a kitchen prep area only. All food must be prepared off-site. There is an outdoor area available for grilling.
The Barn opens onto a large deck offering additional seating overlooking a pond.
During the rental season, April 1 through November 15, the barn is open for viewing by appointment only. From December through March, the barn is open to visitors with Open Houses available on the first Saturday of each month (excluding holidays) from 10:00 am until noon.
The Christian Moerlein Gazebo
The Christian Moerlein Gazebo is also available to Barn renters. The simple gazebo once graced the garden of Christian Moerlein's summer estate in West Chester. The gazebo makes a lovely setting for a small wedding ceremony and/or wedding photos.
